News Post

For those wondering about the quiet yesterday here’s a quick updated and schedule for the next few days.

I’ll be going oversees on a three week vacation this 19th and until then this blog will be going a on small hiatus. I’ll take these next few days to updated the RNG list with the suggestions you all have sent in (and more) as well as to write up three weeks worth of queued posts.

So starting on the 19th daily posting will resume. Feel free to keep sending in your suggestions and questions even while I’m away. I probably won’t be able to respond to them quickly but I’ll try to find some wifi spots while I’m gone to check in on things here.

Until then!

Gungnir

Today’s challenge is the PSP game Gungnir! Part of the excellent Dep. Heaven series, this game is one of the best strategy RPGs that you can find for the PSP. Now to figure out how to properly pronounce it’s name…

Fatal Labyrinth

It’s oldschool day again as today’s challenge sets its eyes on Fatal Labyrinth. The game is very true to its name as you will die, a lot, as you make your way through the game’s randomly generated dungeon levels. And death will be painful as there is no save feature and you’ll have to start from scratch.

This is old fashioned dungeon crawling in its most basic form and, though extremely frustrating, does feel quite rewarding when you do manage to finally defeat the dragon and claim the goblet (old games had no such things as spoilers). If you still have a Sega Genesis hanging around dust it off and show it some love, alternatively the game can also be found on the Sonic Mega Collection for PS3 and on Steam.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel

Sorry for the abrupt absence everyone. This here blogger had to go get a lumbar puncture, and the side effects have not been sitting well with me. For the same reason I hope you can forgive the lack of pre-amble for today’s challenge.

That challenge would be Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel which you can pick up for the PS3. The third installment in the series, the prior two Ar Tonelico games are also good for today’s challenge.

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2

Welcome back everyone, today’s challenge is another sleeper of a game that many people probably missed out on. Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 is actually part of a much larger series of games, most of which have never actually seen an English release. The games story will probably not blow you away but its appeal comes from it’s swordcraft system. You make your own weapons in this game and it can be amazingly satisfying to do so.

Also, it’s an Atlus release. I believe it deserves mentioning that Atlus releases more games than just the Shing Megami Tensei series, and they do tend to have some quality to choose from. Any other Summon Night games are good for this challenge, though I wish you the best of luck if you are in Europe or the US as your selection choices are rather limited.

Happy crafting!

Dungeon Hunter II

Get your android phones and i-devices ready, today’s challenge is Dungeon Hunter II, a diablo style hack and slash dungeon crawl. The game plays surprisingly well considering it’s platform limitations, and it’s very obvious that some serious work went into the game and it wasn’t just spat out onto the app market.

Have fun!

Kingdom Hearts II

Welcome back everyone! Today’s challenge is Kingdom Hearts II. Back when the first game was announced people could hardly wrap their minds around a Square/Disney crossover without mocking, but the end result was very well crafted game that combined real time action battles with a classic jRPG skill system beautifully. And the second entry only improved on it. Add to that a story that’s in turn Square fantastic and Disney nostalgic and you’ve got yourself a winner of a game here.

Have fun everyone and of course other games in the series qualify for today’s challenge as well!

Also, in case anyone cares about RNG sillyness: it’s first pick for today was End of Nations, but that game was disqualified due to not actually being available yet.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Look guys… I’m at the mercy of the RNG here. And it’s not like the list of games it has to pick from is all that short… we’re just having a very ‘interesting’ selection these past few days.

Right then, another Sonic the Hedgehog day. That’s the third one in six days. In Monopoly and D&D we’d be getting roll punishments at this point. Hopefully the RNG will feel a little more creative for the next week. If not… I might have to start… RE-rolling.

Such horror.

Regardless, I know there are quite a few that are going to enjoy this turn of events. Have a happy time everyone! :)

Of Orcs and Men

The orc is a rather under-appreciated element of fantasy for all that they play such a large role in many many games. Does this game finally give them that recognition they so very much deserve?

Well, you’ll have to be the judge of that as I myself haven’t played it. Today I challenge you to play Of Orcs and Men. I may not have the background knowledge to tell you of this game, but the title seems to speak quite clearly for itself.

Have fun everybody!

Sonic & Knuckles

This is the risk I take with my system. My system being a list, a very very long list, of video game titles that I have an RNG choose from. The result is that, on occasion, the random selection may very easily double up on the selection of a prior date.

So today is another round of Sonic, the RNG said the challenge should be Sonic & Knuckles and same as a few days ago I’m also opening it up to all the classic Sonic games.

Obviously this just means that the RNG has very good taste in Genesis games. Happy playing everyone and hope you don’t get burned out!
